There are several Mann's of Norwich from the same family recorded as working at this time & we believe that this clock came from the workshop of John Mann (Died 1835) His wife, Matilda is also recorded as clockmaker & carried on making clocks after John's death. This clock was possibly by Matilda Mann & this might account for no first name on the dial.

George Simson (or Simpson):

By 1787 George Simson was in business as an upholder, cabinet-maker and undertaker at 19 St Pauls Church Yard where he continued to trade until 1839. He was known at the time & since for making high quality, fashionable furniture from Sheraton's designs. Simson used two labels to identify his work, the later version was decorated with two hatchments. This later label dates this chest of drawers post 1800.

George Simson is listed in Geoffrey Beard and Christopher Gilbert's Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, 1660-1840. In 1793 he subscribed to Sheraton's Drawing Book and in 1803 was included in the list of master cabinet makers in the Cabinet Dictionary.
